The city of Hagen has adopted its Smart City strategy.

Autor: Johannes Röder

The result is a substantial document: the Smart City Strategy for the city of Hagen comprises 112 pages, the conception and editing of which the ZDE (Center for Urban Development and Planning) was privileged to oversee in recent months, working closely with the city administration and other local stakeholders. However, the document itself is just the tip of the iceberg, and the underlying process is at least as important as the tangible outcome. Close coordination with representatives from the city administration and various formats for public participation were central to the work. The administrative BarCamp, in particular, remains a memorable and innovative format.

The strategy was divided into ten areas of impact and six fields of action, making the most important future issues for the city of Hagen tangible. Technology, including sensors and an urban data platform, provides the digital framework for diverse applications aimed at increasing sustainability and quality of life.

On May 22nd, the Hagen City Council adopted the strategy. An important milestone, but by no means the end point: What follows now is the implementation phase – and the strategy itself will continue to evolve.

We would like to thank the team at the city of Hagen and all other stakeholders involved for the pleasant cooperation.
